We were contacted by a senior executive in a remote part of Uganda. Following consultation with our medical staff, the VIP was experiencing signs of a serious coronary condition, requiring immediate evacuation to a place of medical safety.
Challenge
As there was no appropriately equipped clinic where the client was located, an emergency air ambulance to Niarobi was required. Compounding the emergency, the executive’s passport had been inadvertently left in Kampala, hundreds of kilometres from where they were currently located.
Action
Through our long experience, we have developed trusted providers of air ambulance services in all areas of the globe, allowing us to rapidly deploy a plane to the client. At the same time as sending the air ambulance, we also arranged for an agent to locate and take the passport to the airport in Kampala. When the air ambulance staff had boarded the VIP and started their immediate treatment, they were able to briefly land in the capital to pick up the passport, allowing them to proceed to Kenya.
Outcome
The client was taken to the Aga Khan Hospital in Kenya, the region’s centre of medical excellence with which we have had a long association. The diagnosis of an acute coronary condition was confirmed and a cardiac stent inserted, restoring blood supply to the heart and averting a serious clinical condition. The VIP made a rapid recovery and was able to be repatriated only a few days later.
